GTA V still feels weirdly alive because it lets you do tiny stuff well. You can rob, drive, mess about, then end up ten minutes offshore chasing a hidden package like it's a Sunday dive. Los Santos has pools, lakes, rivers, the Alamo Sea, and that huge ocean wrapped around the map, so water isn't just scenery. New players often look up controls, routes, or even GTA 5 Money tips after realising underwater exploring can pay out, but the first win is simply learning how not to drown.

Diving without looking like a tourist
Getting into the water is simple. Walk or drive into water deep enough, and your character switches from walking to swimming. No magic button. On the surface, PC uses W, A, S, and D for movement, with Shift for a faster stroke. PlayStation uses the left stick and X. Xbox uses the left stick and A. Tap the swim button and you'll move quicker, though you'll also burn through the moment faster if you're careless.
The actual dive button is where people mess up. PC uses Spacebar, PlayStation uses R1, and Xbox uses RB. Once you're under, the controls feel backwards at first. Push up on the stick and you go deeper. Pull down and you head toward air. On PC, Left Shift moves you forward underwater, W with Shift angles down, and S with Shift angles back up. Watch the blue breath bar near health. When it empties, health drops fast.

What most players are doing right now
The Meta: Dive for packages, practice routes, then surface before panic.
The Snag: Players push up, go deeper, then blame the game.
The Fix: Pull down early and never ignore the blue bar.
Reality check: Half of GTA swimming deaths come from stubbornness, not sharks, not controls, just pure panic.

Quick platform control check
Here's the bit I'd keep open if you're swapping between PC and console. It's not fancy, but it saves that awful "why won't he go up" moment.

Scuba gear changes the rhythm completely, since you're not racing the breath meter every few seconds. In story mode, it becomes available after the main story, and the dinghy at the Sonar Collections Dock can also trigger scuba gear when you exit it in the water.

The question people keep asking
A lot of players ask if shallow pools count for proper underwater diving, especially motel pools and backyard pools.
Usually, no. If the water won't cover your head, the dive input won't behave like open water.

Online play, cheats, and the bigger GTA picture
GTA Online is still busy enough to attract cheat sellers, and that brings ugly risk. One reported Atlas Menu breach exposed account details, IPs, support tickets, and bcrypt password hashes, which is a rough reminder that paid mod menus aren't harmless toys. Rockstar has also leaned harder into anti-cheat on PC, while Take-Two keeps saying major GTA launches start on console first. So yeah, GTA V lives across platforms, but smart players keep their accounts clean, learn the basics, and treat shortcuts with caution. If you're comparing legit progress with outside options like GTA 5 Money for sale, at least know the risks before chasing convenience.
